"…a nice little two-disc NAS…"
Bookmark and Share

01/23/2012Hardware Test Portal of Denmark is one of the leading reviewers of NAS in the Nordic Region and has quite a bit of experience testing Thecus products. The N2200PLUS filled in their view of Thecus NAS by providing a competitively priced 2-bay home NAS to complement the powerhouses that it has reviewed before, such as the N4200PRO. After taking a thorough look at the N2200PLUS, lauded it as a strong addition to the home market and was not surprised at its strong sales worldwide.

Efficiency is key with a home NAS: “A 600MHz processor does not sound like much these days, but the dual-core SoC type CPU does a decent job, although it is not Intel Atom level performance. The huge advantage in using such compact technology is, besides being able to build a two-disc NAS server the size of a lunchbox, the low power consumption. With two ordinary hard drives installed power draw is 20W idle, and usually around 25-30W when used.].”

The N2200PLUS's software solution is very powerful: “It is on the firmware side that Thecus gets the most points. There are a lot of similar Linux based NAS devices on the market with browser interface and all that, but I think Thecus' version is one of the better.”
