“Excellent performance and many connections”

10/11/2018 – Computer!Totaal is a well-established print and online magazine in Holland and known for covering almost all aspects of modern technology. Recently they took a long look at the Thecus N4810, the curent 4-bay NAS for small offices or home usage.

The Thecus N4810 delivers “great performance”, according to the review, and the hardware platform together with its many connectors is “in any case fine” when used as network storage or even a media center at home. “The quad-core Celeron N3160 processor, together with 4 GB of RAM, still delivers excellent performance with 93.9 and 87.9 MB/s reading and writing at RAID5. In addition, the processor offers 4K hardware transcoding. There are two gigabit network ports, three USB 3.0 and one USB Type-C port for additional storage, for example. For playback via a connected TV or stereo, a S/PDIF output, HDMI and display port are available.

One of the highlights of the N4810 is definitely the display at the front of the NAS for status updates and easy handling. Also mentioned was the App Center inside ThecusOS 7.0 which brings more functionality to the NAS and its user. “The NAS is one of the few in its price range to have a display for status reports and insight into the configuration. To use the direct display, the Local Display app must be installed, one of many functional expansions in the Thecus App Center. […] Highlights are also available such as the various synchronization options such as Google Drive, Dropbox and OwnCloud, and the media centers KODI and Plex.

One of the unique features of the latest Thecus NAS is the support of the Btrfs file system which allows snapshots of the stored data for easy backup and recovery in case of emergency. “A plus is the support of the Btrfs file system for infinite snapshots of the data on the NAS.

+ LC display
+ Btrfs snapshots
