PC DIY Logo03/17/2010The N4200 from Thecus® Technology offers incredible performance and versatility for both home and SOHO users. The latest review comes from the folks over at PCDIY Magazine, who had the chance to thoroughly test the N4200, and at the end of it all, found a lot to love about Thecus®' newest four-bay NAS server.

Packed with impressive hardware, the N4200 is sure to please: "Thecus has focused on heavy users and small businesses with a new NAS - the N4200. It features a powerful new disk controller and extensive security and software functions, giving users an even more perfect network storage and sharing experience. The Thecus N4200 uses an Intel Atom D510 1.66GHz dual core CPU and 1GB of DDR2 memory. There are Gigabit-class WAN and LAN ports, which are great for when multiple users are accessing the unit. The internal hard disk bays can accommodate 4 SATA hard disks for a maximum capacity of 8TB, and users can also choose to install 3.5" or 2.5" formats. This along with 6 USB 2.0 ports, two eSATA ports and one PCI-E x1 slot, and both usage and expandability are very flexible."

Data security on the N4200 is top-notch: "Aside from the locks on the hard disk trays, security on the N4200 includes a feature similar to a motherboard's Dual BIOS - Dual DOM. This gives the system software a backup and restore function that ensures normal system operation. Even more interesting is the internal removable lithium-ion battery, which allows unwritten data stored in the system RAM to be written to the hard disks before the system powers down, avoiding both data and system damage."

The N4200 is also incredibly friendly: "In terms of user interface, the front panel's LCD and OLED can display hard disk, network and system fan status messages, and the function keys allow users to initiate USB backup and configure system settings. In addition, the traditional Chinese interface contains many system options, including RAID modes, power management, snapshot functionality, and iTunes/photo/multimedia/print servers, and there's even a BT/eMule download manager - overall a very complete feature package.”
