“Convenient, surprisingly easy and my photos are saved! My experience of using a high-performance NAS. ”

03/18/2016 The Japanese team at Nikkei TRENDY  offer in-depth and fair evaluations of a myriad of new products/services that come to the market while analyzing new trends. Recently they had a chance to have a look at some of Thecus' NAS series.

The back story

“When using a digital camera, it can become incredibly frustrating when dealing with saving a large amount of photo files. Especially since the memory size of a single photo can be 10MB or greater when in JPEG format. You can quickly be caught off guard when the hard drive on your personal computer becomes immediately filled. Even more so if it is a laptop equipped with even smaller storage capacity.”

The three NAS systems that were reviewed each are powered by an Intel® Celeron™ Quad-Core processor with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, allowing home and SMB users to have all the raw processing power they could ever need.

“To combat this, I used to save my pictures to an external HDD case, though this was cumbersome each time having to connect by USB to a PC. So I was amazed at the convenience when introduced to connecting via the same LAN, using a NAS (Network Attached Storage).”

“Equipped with robust security and backup functions, with multiple RAID levels, the N5810 series is easily set up, easy to handle, even for users who are not very familiar with the NAS.”

The different options

The N5810PRO is unique in the market as it is the only solution which includes a mini-UPS battery. To take things even further, 5 LAN ports are included allowing for crazy transfer speeds of up to 500MB/s.

“The N5810PRO comes with a UPS which is a small backup battery, so even if a power outage occurs, it can be safely shut down with this power. The N5810 doesn't have this option, though it has the same high performance at a reduced price. The W5810 is a Windows version of "N5810" where you have installed the Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials as its OS.”

Thanks to the whole team at Nikkei TRENDY  for the review.
