Using two Ethernet ports for double the security, double the speed.

03/16/2016 - Do you have a fast local network and a modern NAS like the Thecus N2810 or the N5810(PRO)? Then you may want to consider utilizing “Link Aggregation”, one of the many features these devices offer. By deploying multiple Ethernet ports on the NAS with a switch or router, you can increase data security and maximize the performance of the NAS.

Thecus NAS give you a choice of different modes of link aggregation. For example, you can configure it to have the network traffic balanced across both ports (load balancing) or have one as the primary Ethernet port and the other one serve as a backup (failover). Even a combination is possible. Both network ports are used but the second one can finish the data transfer in case the first one suddenly and unexpectedly fails (broadcast).

Most modern NAS from Thecus currently support link aggregation, for example the brand new N2810.  Also last year's N5810 and N5810PRO provide this feature. So this important feature is not restricted to just the absolute high-end models anymore.

By the way, the Thecus NAS with Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials like the W5810 provide link aggregation, too, just under a different name. Microsoft calls this feature “NIC-Teaming”.
